The Negombo Local Inter Religious Committee (LIRC) provided dry rations to 220 marginalised families, the Mahosu Child Development Centre and the Bethony Elders’ Home as part of NPC’s Covid-19 relief work, which is supported by the Canadian government through its Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).

LIRC members distributed the rations worth Rs. 220,000 among 220 families including female-headed households, low income daily wage earners and differently-abled people who have been affected by the curfew imposed to stop the spread of Covid-19.

The Mahosu Child Development Centre, which is located in Minuwangoda and provides residential care to 17 children, were given provisions of Rs. 20,000.

The Bethony Elders’ home in Pitipana, which has eight residents, received provisions of Rs. 10,000.

Coordinator of Negombo LIRC, Mrs. Fathima Josinka, said, “I saw with my own eyes that these people have many difficulties because they have lost their daily incomes.”
