Members of the Weligama Local Inter Religious Committee (LIRC) supplied 100 packs of dry rations to ten needy families in the area.

Local government officials, police officers, religious leaders and Grama Niladharis were involved in the distribution of the dry rations.

“LIRC contributes to improving the lives of people. This intervention in these difficult times should be appreciated,” a government official said.

Religious leaders in the LIRC said that it was necessary to help people who were suffering and facing many problems caused by the Covid-19 crisis.

“We can’t buy enough food because shops are closed and we have no wages. It is a great relief that we have received this pack of food,” a beneficiary said.

LIRC members also disseminated leaflets among beneficiaries to raise awareness on the safety measures to avoid the spread of the virus.
