NPC continues to support communities affected by Covid-19 with financial aid from the Canadian Government through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), Misereor and the European Union (EU). Through these efforts 3,516 low income families, 5,620 persons including persons with disabilities and special needs residing in orphanages and old people’s homes and 440 families from marginalised community groups including persons with disabilities and members of female-headed households have been supported up to April 30, 2020. These distributions are valued at Rs. 11,668,411.

DIRCs Reach Out to Help Communities During Covid-19 Crisis

Members of the National Peace Council’s District Inter Religious Committees (DIRCs) across the country have been reaching out to disadvantaged people in their areas who are unable to access essential supplies due to lack of funds and availability caused by the Covid-19 crisis and the ensuing curfew.

Disadvantaged people of Negombo received 2,000 parcels of dry rations and daily essentials from Periyamulla Grand Mosque Trustee Committee

Disadvantaged people of all religions and ethnicities received 2,000 parcels of dry rations and daily essentials from the Periyamulla Grand Mosque Trustee Committee and the Negombo Merchant's Association to assist them during the Covid 19 crisis that is gripping the country.
