NPC continues to support communities affected by Covid-19 with financial aid from the Canadian Government through the Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI), Misereor and the European Union (EU). Through these efforts 3,516 low income families, 5,620 persons including persons with disabilities and special needs residing in orphanages and old people’s homes and 440 families from marginalised community groups  including persons with disabilities and members of female-headed households have been supported up to April 30, 2020. These distributions are valued at Rs. 11,668,411.

Helping Children and Elders in Beruwala

NPC’s Beruwala Local Inter Religious Committee (LIRC) supplied dry rations to seven children’s homes, six elders’ homes and 254 families as part of its Covid-19 relief work supported by the Canadian government’s Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI).

The dry rations worth Rs. 230,000 were handed over to the matrons of 13 homes by the Coordinator of Beruwala LIRC Mr. Sachitha Hewage and other members of the LIRC. The homes provide residential care to 154 elders and 255 children.

In addition, dry rations worth Rs. 245,110 were provided to 254 families in Beruwala and Kalutara.

Divisional Secretary of Beruwala Mr. Chathura Malraj and members Beruwala LIRC attended in dry rations distribution.

Sachitha Hewage, Coordinator of Beruwala LIRC said, “People who received the dry rations were grateful to us for coming to help them since they have received no help from any other organization.”
